Summer Stuff It's been a while since I've updated and that's fine. Hey, I'm busy working out heh heh. I haven't been running very much lately - I did a 4 mile race in June and since then, I've been trying to figure out ways to stay active. I started taking spinning classes. I used to be afraid of this hardcore cycling adventure, but I love it now. Fortunately, my gym has really great instructors, each with their own strengths and push me in different ways. It's always tough for me. Some people look like it's not so hard for them. I must look terrible. However, it kicks my butt. Literally. It makes me feel strong and confident. I've even invested in cycling shorts which typically I'd never wear in public. But it helps me perform better in class, and the pair I bought have light padding so I can go straight from class to the treadmill or elliptical machine without bulky padding. I don't care how gross I look in them, I feel good and work out hard. This year, I've managed to lose 25lbs....yes, much of it the weight that I gained at the end of last year. But it's still an accomplishment. I've been taking 5-7 spinning classes per week, and the scale is moving down again and I'm feeling great. I purchased four dresses in the past couple of weeks on the clearance racks and none of them are plus size - all regular size XL. I weigh 215 as of this weekend and I feel extremely confident. Aside from spinning, I'm walking or using the elliptical machine more than anything. Yesterday was Sunday and it's supposed to be my day "off" from working out. I met a friend at 7am for a walk and another friend at 8.30am for the same walk - less calories than meeting for a meal or coffee - and I ended up walking 8 miles and soaked with sweat by the end. The walk had inclines and declines and was actually a great workout. But my legs are feeling the 2+ hours walk today and I'm worried I'll not be able to perform well at spinning class tonight. According to my heart rate monitor, I burned over 1000 calories just with that walk and I'm thinking I may do that every week Sunday. I was telling one of my friends about how back when I weighed 260lbs plus, I used to sleep in all the time and rarely woke up before 9a or 10a. I didn't realize how many people are out being active way early in the mornings. I love it. And, if I really need a nap, I'll take one in the afternoons. I really enjoy being active. I'm so fortunate to be able to move. Some people can't. I watched a documentary about paraplegics recently. I have the ability to move. I no longer want to waste this body by letting is be sendentary and overweight. I purchased a swimsuit that I really like...pretty modest, with a little skirt. But I also bought another in a smaller size. Going to Mexico in a few months and that is the suit I'm taking with me. :) I'm going to make this a great, active summer. |
